Many of our young citizens want to help those families from Fort McMurray rise up from the ashes of their recent devastating tragedy. We are going to hold a special day to send messages of hope and encouragement to the families. If you would like to make a monetary contribution under the name of Smokey Drive Elementary to his cause, you can send it in during this time as well. All donations will be matched by the Red Cross. This special day will be held on Monday, June 13th.

It is that time when we like to send out a reminder to check hair for lice and nits. Nits look like white dots stuck to the strands of hair. They look like dandruff but do not flake away. They are difficult to remove from the hair. Taking a thorough check each night over the next few weeks is recommended. A simple treatment, found at the drugstore, will help to control any infestation. The student can return to school after they have been treated.
Congratulations to Mandy Sturge! Mandy’s name was drawn as the winner of the Sealy Posturepedic Mattress and Box Spring Set. The PTA wish to thank everyone who purchased tickets and donated the bed set for this fundraiser.
We are having difficulty responding to any e-mails to us from Hotmail accounts. We are able to receive your messages, but we cannot reply to them. There seems to be a glitch across the board. The Technology Department is working to resolve this problem. You can always reach us by phone (902)864-6838 or if you happen to have another e-mail account, that would work too.
Thursday, May 12 is the last day to purchase tickets for the Queen Size Sealy Posturepedic mattress & box spring set. Tickets are $2.00 or 3 for $5.00. Draw will be held on Monday, May 16.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Over seven years ago, I was so very excited to arrive on the doorstep of Smokey Drive Elementary School. I have been truly honoured and know how privileged I am to be principal of this exceptional school. Every day that I come to school, I truly appreciate that I am surrounded by phenomenal students, an amazing staff and wonderful families all snuggled into a beautiful school community. My goal was to ensure that our school was a safe, supportive, learning environment for all of our school family members; students, parents and guardians, and staff members.
So, it is with mixed emotions that I must say a fond “Farewell”. I have just accepted a new position as principal of Tantallon Elementary School for the 2016 – 2017 school year.
With my deepest sincerity, I want to thank you for all your support over these years; it has made coming to work an absolute joy every day. Our students are a reflection of all of you and they are true citizens of our school and community. You have created a special, safe haven for all who enter Smokey Drive Elementary School.
Thank you, again,
